A Little Bit About Brahmatal Trek
What if your next trip wasn’t to a city or a beach, but to a place where everything is covered in soft white snow? That’s exactly what the Brahmatal Trek offers.
The Brahmatal Trek is one of the most beautiful winter treks in Uttarakhand, loved by beginners and experienced trekkers alike. In winter, the entire path gets covered in fresh white snow, the forests become quiet and peaceful and the famous Brahmatal Lake freezes completely, creating a breathtaking scene you will never forget.
As you move higher, you get clear views of big Himalayan peaks like Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti. On a clear day, you can also spot parts of the Roopkund trail from the top. The best part is that the route is not too steep or scary- it’s safe, simple and perfect for people who are doing their first snow trek.
The trail passes through beautiful oak and rhododendron forests, open snowfields and stunning sunset points. The campsites are comfortable, the paths are well-marked, and the overall experience is peaceful and full of natural beauty. That’s why Brahmatal is perfect for first-time trekkers, solo travellers, groups of friends and even families with kids who want to enjoy the magic of the Himalayas without choosing a very difficult trek.
Where is Brahmatal?
Brahmatal is in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is located in the Garhwal Himalayas. The lake sits high in the mountains, surrounded by forests and snow-covered slopes.
The trek starts from Lohajung, a small mountain village. Lohajung is peaceful, quiet and very scenic. From here, you can see the Nanda Ghunti and Trishul mountain ranges. The village is the main base for the Brahmatal Trek.
This region lies near the Kumaon -Garhwal border. Because of this, you get a mix of both landscapes: thick forests, open ridges and wide views of snowy peaks. The area is calm, less crowded and perfect for nature lovers.
Brahmatal Trek Distance, Height & Difficulty
You don’t need extreme fitness for this trek. But you should be able to:
- Walk 6–7 km comfortably in a day
- Have basic stamina for cold-weather hiking
It also helps if you do 20–30 minutes of light cardio like jogging, brisk walking or cycling for 2–3 weeks before the trek.Trek Distance
The total Brahmatal Trek distance is about 24 km. This distance is spread out over 4–6 days, so you never walk too much in a single day. Most days involve 5-7 km of trekking, which is manageable even for beginners. The trails pass through forests, frozen lakes and open ridgelines, so the walk feels enjoyable rather than tiring.
